11th – 14th July 2017

The concept for the conference is to provide an inclusive environment that encourages and delivers multi-disciplinary engagement across a wide range of topics and disciplines, all centred around the three core themes of the M2D network.
As both a speaker and a member of the audience, come prepared to get involved through full and active participation in our many Panel Discussion sessions. The aim is to get as many people from differing research and working backgrounds all conversing on and contributing to the same problems and questions at hand.

Scientific Committee

The Scientific Programme is being organised by the Scientific Committee: Peter Challenor (University of Exeter), Catherine Powell (University of Manchester), Richard Bradley (London School of Economics), Alejandro Diaz (University of Liverpool), James Lyons (University of Exeter), David Woods (University of Southampton), Matt Butchers (Knowledge Transfer Network), Richard Clayton (University of Sheffield) and Julie Gore (University of Bath).

Scientific Programme

The conference will address the three core themes of the M2D Network Uncertainty Quantification, From Model to Decision and Communicating Uncertainty. Key programme sessions include:

  • The Role of Applied Mathematics in Models and Decision Making
  • The Role of Visualisation in Models and Decision Making
  • The Role of Statistics in Models and Decisions Making
  • The Role of Philosophy & Social Sciences in Models and Decisions Making
  • The Role of Psychology in Models and Decision Making
  • Decision Makers Led Day

Details of the sessions speakers are available (pending their confirmation) on the M2D website.

Abstracts Submission:

We are currently inviting abstracts for the M2D Conference 2017 for both oral and posters presentations. Please be aware that we have only a limited number of spaces for oral presentations, so we highly encourage the submission of poster contributions.
Poster presentations will be given a designated session on the Monday evening, where presenters will be given the opportunity to deliver a 1 minute, 1 slide pitch. Posters will then remain on display for the rest of the conference. A prize for the best student poster will be awarded during the Conference Dinner on the Thursday.

  • Contributed talks will need to take into account the diverse (multi-discipline) nature of the M2D Conference audience and should not be technical. This should be reflected in the abstract.
  • Poster presentations (and their abstracts) may have technical and discipline-specific content.

Please submit your abstract to Emma Clarke clearly stating which M2D Theme it is best suited to. We ask that abstracts are no longer than 400 words and if any special characters are to be included, please use LaTeX. The deadline for abstract submission is 31st May 2017
