This is a one-day workshop being held at the University of Cambridge, designed to identify UK industrial data measurement requirements and promote the establishment of the new NPL data research initiative. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is establishing a data research initiative dedicated to supporting industry in the rapidly accelerating reliance on data and the digital economy. Under its remit as the UK's National Measurement Institute (NMI), NPL will create the measurement framework required for traceability in big data systems. Through the provision of data standards and verified data processing methodologies enabling unbroken chains of data flow with quantifiable uncertainties at each step, the value of data is increased and the legal standing of decisions made on big data analytics is ensured.
